1. Who are we

1.2 Great Yarmouth Borough Council ("we" or "our" or "us") is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.
1.3 This policy (and any other documents referred to herein) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you on our website (www.visitgreatyarmouth.co.uk, bookings.guestlink.co.uk), or that you provide to us by other means or will be processed by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it.
2. How we use your personal data
2.1 We will process your personal data in accordance with the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulations and the Data Protection Act 2018. We maintain strict security standards and procedures with a view to preventing unauthorised access to your data by anyone, including our staff. We use leading technologies such as (but not limited to) data encryption, fire walls and server authentication to protect the security of your data.

3. Online Purchases/Bookings
3.1 When you book accommodation or trips, buy event tickets or order items from our online shop, our order form asks you to give us information specific to that order, including your billing address, shipping address, credit card information and email address. The information that you provide is processed for the purpose of supplying the purchased goods and services and keeping proper records of those transactions. We also use the information to contact you if there is a problem with your order. The legal basis for this processing is the performance of a contract between you and us and/or taking steps, at your request, to enters into such a contract and our legitimate interests, namely our interest in the proper administration of our website and business.
3.2 All of our transactions automatically take place on a secure server. All your personal information is encrypted before it is transmitted over the Internet.
4. Marketing
4.1 We may process information that you provide to us for the purpose of visitor registration, brochure requests, e-newsletters subscriptions and competition entry. This data may be processed for the purposes of sending you the relevant notifications and media.
4.2 E-newsletters - by completing our e-newsletter signup page you are agreeing to receive email marketing communications. These can be unsubscribed from at any time, simply by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.
4.3 Brochure requests - by completing our Brochure Request form you are agreeing to receive brochures from us.
4.4 Visitor Registration - by completing our Visitor Registration page you are agreeing to register your details and access them again later.
4.5 Competitions - please check the individual terms and conditions associated with each competition. By entering our competitions and completing our entry forms you are agreeing for your data to be used to administer the competition.
4.6 The legal basis for this processing is consent, this means you have the right at any time to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We operate an optional choice for receiving marketing communications and will clearly name any other organisations who may process your personal data. 5. Visitor Profiling & Statistics
5.1 When you buy from us online, our system automatically gathers purchase data, we may also collect information about your device, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. This is statistical data about our users' browsing actions and patterns which helps us improve our offerings in the same way that other companies change their catalogue based on what sells best.

7. Providing your personal data to others
7.1 We may use other third party service providers to provide certain data processing services for us (acting as our authorised data processors). Examples of authorised data processors could include billing and fulfilment partners, IT solution providers, data analytics providers who process information on our behalf for the purposes outlined above. 9. Data Retention Periods
9.1 We will retain your personal data for the following periods:
• Operational Database records will be deleted after 24 months of last use, e.g. checking out of accommodation.
• eMarketing Database records will be deleted after 24 months of last use, e.g. an email being sent.
10. Your rights
10.1 You have a number of rights available to you including the right of access, rectify, restrict, object or port your data. Please note that these rights are not absolute and there are circumstances where they do not apply, or the Council may lawfully override these rights.
