Thurne Mill – 200 years exhibition - Heritage Open Day in GREAT YARMOUTH, Great Yarmouth - Great Yarmouth

Thurne Mill

In 1949 this distinctive mill was saved by Ronald Dorian Morse. The mill had been left untouched for 13 years and had fallen into disrepair! Thankfully, it was saved and restored by this incredible young engineer. We are proud that it stands today, working and keeping the past alive and visible. When you arrive (wind permitting) you can witness the huge sails turning and the turbine pumping into the dyke. You will hear all about the local environment, why the mills were important to the Broads. There will be a photographic exhibition inside the mill and our Marshmen will be there to answer all your questions.

One of only two fully working mills on the Broads – with working demonstrations and Marshman.
