You are here: Visitor Information > Coastal Code & Covid-19 latest
Restrictions have been lifted in England but we can all still do our best to protect ourselves and others.
See steps to take when staying or visiting Great Yarmouth including what to do if you show symtpoms or test positive for Covid-19 whilst here. Whilst visiting Great Yarmouth, please remember to follow our Coastal Code to help ensure our borough is as beautiful when you leave as it was when you arrived.
If you feel well enough to travel and don’t need to use public transport, you should return home as quickly and directly as you can. If you feel so unwell that you can’t travel or can’t avoid public transport, you should continue to isolate and call 111 for further advice. It is important not to use public transport.
You must also tell your accommodation provider that you have tested positive. They can support you to isolate if you are staying and will need to conduct specific cleaning after you leave to ensure that the accommodation is safe for the next guests. If you are unwell and can’t return home, you will be expected to pay all costs for your stay to your accommodation provider.
If you cannot safely return home and need to self-isolate in Great Yarmouth, this means not leaving your accommodation or having visitors there. This news can be shocking and upsetting, but there is support available to you.
If you or someone you know needs any of the above help, contact us on 0344 800 8020.
Stay and enjoy your visit as planned but if you need medical help please call your own regular GP or 111.
If you develop COVID-19 symptoms during your visit, don’t ignore or try to hide your symptoms. It’s important you act quickly to help yourself and protect those around you. It is your responsibility to stay safe and keep others safe.
Do not ignore your symptoms. Self-isolating and getting tested quickly is the best way that you can stay safe and protect others. You must tell your accommodation provider. If you need medical advice while you wait for your test results, please contact your regular (home) GP or call 111.
Think about how you will get home if you want to return to isolate. You won’t be able to use public transport, and if you are in private transport, you’ll need to make your journey home without stopping in public areas/leaving your vehicle.
If you choose to isolate in Norfolk, you will need to make sure that your accommodation is suitable, meaning no shared facilities. You will also need to make sure that you can stay in the accommodation until the end of your isolation period.
If you need to find suitable accommodation, or extend your existing one, you will need to pay the additional costs
If your accommodation is not self catering, think about how you would get food. Hotels may be able to provide meals in your room (which will be an extra cost if you are not all-inclusive). Alternatively, you could get take-away meals delivered.
If your accommodation is not self contained, so you are isolating in your room, you will not be able to leave for any reason. If you smoke, you should plan how you will manage this; some options would be Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) or an e-cigarette (check with your accommodation, as some will not allow e-cigarette use indoors).
Some accommodation is not suitable for self-isolation, for example if it has shared washing facilities – you will need to consider this in your planning.
We hope your stay goes without a hitch, but to take the stress out of additional costs you may wish to consider taking holiday insurance cover for your stay (making sure it covers COVID-related costs).
Whilst visiting Great Yarmouth, remember to abide to the Coastal Code, making sure everyone can enjoy our beautiful borough.
